3-Way Collab: Circus Coven

I got hit up for a collaboration with cynnamyl & bibbleskit. It was a little difficult to decide at first on what we should choose to do between 3 people. Originally we were going to draw based on moodboards. Cyn has a lot of them on pinterest! (I’m not a pinterest person nor do I know how to use it, so this was new for me. Moodboards, too.) We all chose ones we liked and one common one was a circus theme.

I added the suggestion of doing a three way collab, and well we just ended up mashing together so many ideas. Cyn & I both have collabs on our bingo card, so we decided to just go for 2 bingos with 1 collab, ha! We tried to decide on character types we all didn’t have, but I have so many OC’s. I don’t mind having extra of a type. We settled on witches and the moodboard and just came up with “Circus Witches”.

My initial idea was to try going for a more creepy OC since I’m not very good at designing darker themed characters despite loving horror. For my OC (that I’m now loosely referring to as Poppet), I wanted to make a sort of theater masked puppet witch with cut strings who puppets others. I loved being able to admire everyone’s work at different stages! Everyone did a fantastic job and I was so happy to be able to work on something like this with friends.

  • I loved lining Bib’s sketch, his posing was so much fun! I did feel like I had to redline a bit since he did end up using the wrong canvas size and stretching it to fit. He was the first to start right away before we settled on any specifics, haha!
  • The coloring part was a little tricky. Circus themes was a difficult challenge, I tried to keep in mind Cyn’s color use for the face and hair and wanted to give her some brighter colors. I’m not too happy with what I ended up with, but after a week of mulling over the colors, I said fuck it a bit. Idk how circuses manage to make a cohesive color theme, or maybe they don’t and that’s why it was hard. Planned randomness, is not random.

I also loved not knowing what would come back to us in the end. Getting poppet back was interesting to see. Funny enough, Bibs said he did a few other color schemes before settling on her final design.

Honestly, seeing this version made me laugh so much, because I dislike the combination of blue + purple together in general (No shade intended). I might make some minor tweaks with her here & there to fit my own style more so she’s comfortable for me to use. I’d like to keep the color scheme the same for the most part + if possible maybe incorporate some of her old design with her new, idk! The cotton candy version is starting to grow on me some!

Thank you guys for helping design my new OC!

This was so much fun to work on, thanks for reading!
